end of book blog

i did not enjoy the end of the book i thought that it was not only bad of huck and tom to "sacrifice" jim  wile they escaped. they could have escaped much easier and faster if they just rescued him not go through with this stupid plan. and then tom wouldnt have gotten shot and huck could still be friends with jim. once huck makes it back into "civilized" society he forgets all about jim. i think it is really bad of him because he and jim were tight. they had a special bond that he probably will never have with another person, because they were equals. and since jim is a black man society wouldnt let huck be friends with him. so in the very end of the book there is no mention of jim and i think that is very wrong, on huck's part.

I wholly agree with you on your blog. Why couldn't Huck just stand up for himself against Tom and free Jim easily? It also made for a bad ending since we spent at least 50 pages on his escape, when he could have been doing something else!

Also, interesting point on how Huck reverts back to civilized society at the end of the novel. I guess all his adventures with Jim proved fruitless in the end, hence the whole book could not change him.

I agree with you about Huck. Once Huck is drawn back into civilized society he forgets all about Jim. So, I can see why you didn't like the end of the novel.

I agree with how you talk about Huck wasting the relationship he had with Jim. Even though throughout the book Jim had been like a father to Huck he still treated him like a play toy when Tom came back into the picture. Also as you've said, once civilization comes back it dictates that Jim and Huck couldn't be friends anyways. Which again means that they're relationship was wasted.

Erik I agree with your summary on the last chapter of Huck Finn. I just don't feel completely satisfied with the outcome, we really don't know what happens to Jim or Huck and it feels as though we just kind of drop them off and end the story suddenly.
