in this part of our reading the reference to the angels was symbolism for janie and her relationship with jody. in one way Janie is the little pieces and the mud is symbolism for jody keeping her beauty and elegance away from everyone so she would be only his. and in another way janie is still the little parts but the mud is her relationship with jody and how it isnt close to how she thought it would be and now she is just right back where she was before, she is just as unhappy with him, because he wont let her shine.

I agree, the mud represents Jody trying to hide Janie's beauty from the townspeople. However, once Jody dies, Janie doesn't feel mournful. She embraces her "freedom" and goes to the store with her hair strung down. So in a sense, the mud is covering up something bad to let another thing shine.
